2004: The Beginning

JBMod was created by Jeff Brice as one of the first Half-Life 2 modifications following the Source Engine SDK release. It began as an experimental project to explore the capabilities of the Source Engine.

2004-2005: Early Development

The mod gained attention for introducing unique gameplay mechanics not present in Half-Life 2, including the ability to spawn NPCs and manipulate physics objects more freely. It became popular among modders and content creators.

2005: Community Growth

JBMod's community expanded rapidly, with players using it as a sandbox for creating custom scenarios and testing Source Engine features. It helped pave the way for future sandbox mods.

2005-2006: Garry's Mod Era

As Garry's Mod gained popularity, JBMod's influence began to wane. However, it is remembered as a pioneering mod that helped establish the concept of physics-based sandbox gameplay in the Source Engine.

Legacy

While JBMod's active development ended, its impact on the modding community and influence on subsequent Source Engine mods, particularly Garry's Mod, remains significant. It demonstrated the potential for user-created content and experimentation in game modifications.
